Chocolate Coins - a St. Patrick’s Day Tradition

Jan 5th 2020

“At the end of every rainbow lies a pot of gold.” That phrase instantly brings visions of a happy-go-lucky leprechaun guarding an overflowing cauldron of bright gold coins, or, a favorite breakfast cereal!
Whichever image it conjures up for you, there’s no mistaking the mascot of St. Patrick’s Day - a holiday celebrated each year on the 17th of March. While St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated by the Irish dating back to 1000AD, it was first celebrated here in the United States in 1737 in the country’s most Irish city - Boston.
Holidays all have their candy cousin, such as candy canes for Christmas, heart shaped lollipops for Valentine’s Day, and chocolate rabbits for Easter. St. Patrick’s Day is no exception, and we owe the choice of sweets to our friend the leprechaun.
The St. Patrick’s Day candy that’s most associated with the holiday is none other than chocolate coins wrapped in shiny gold foil to represent the coins in the leprechaun’s overflowing pot.

These chocolate coins are a favorite treat that can be used in decorations or handed out as gifts to youngsters of all ages. Our selection of chocolate coins come in either quarters or half-dollars and are available in 2 and 24 pound packages.

If you’re looking for something “green” to hand out with all that “gold,” we have some other St. Patrick’s Day candy such as classic spearmint leaves jellies, green cotton candy, green lollipops and more including green candy in bulk for creating a candy buffet for school or work.
