If you’ve ever wondered just how much we all love candy, the latest report from the National Confectioners Association (NCA) proves it’s a whole lot. According to their 2025 Getting to Know Candy Consumers study, the non-chocolate candy category alone raked in about $12.9 billion in sales — and it’s expected to more than double to $27.8 billion by 2030. That’s a massive amount of gummies, sours, and licorice twists being unwrapped across America!
Hand Up If You LOVE Gummy Candy (Because it's HOT Right Now!)
When it comes to what kind of candy people are reaching for, chewy is king. Chewy candies — including gummies — make up half of all candy sales! The top five favorite candy types are gummies, chewy candy, hard candy, lollipops, and licorice. So, if your go-to sweet treat is a chewy fruit-flavored gummy, you’re in great company. Speaking of flavor, 42% of candy lovers say they prefer fruity flavors over chocolate, mint, or sour, which might explain why tropical and berry-inspired candies continue to fly off our shelves.
Candy Isn’t Just for Kids
We all know kids love candy, but adults are doing plenty of indulging too. In fact, Gen X currently leads the pack when it comes to candy buying, but Millennials are close behind and expected to become the top spenders within the next couple of years. But let's hear it for Gen Z — their candy spending jumped a whopping 47% over the past year. So everyone’s finding a reason to keep the candy jar full.
So What Does It All Mean?
