Suckers or Lollipops? The Sweet Treat That Never Goes Out of Style

Kids these days have some wild words for things, don’t they?

One minute you’re having a perfectly normal conversation, and the next minute someone yells “6 7” and suddenly every kid in the room is laughing like you just told the greatest joke in history. Meanwhile, the rest of us are standing there wondering what just happened.

But funny sayings and changing words are nothing new. Every generation has its own lingo. And believe it or not, candy has had its own little name game too.

Take the lollipop, for example.

Or wait… is it a sucker?

Depending on who you ask, that colorful candy on a stick might go by either name. Some people grew up calling them suckers. Others have always called them lollipops. And some of us bounce back and forth between the two, because honestly, when there’s candy involved, we’re here to enjoy the sweet stuff.

The word “sucker” makes sense when you think about it. After all, that’s exactly how you enjoy one. You unwrap it, pop it in your mouth, and let that sweet flavor last as long as possible. Unless, of course, you’re one of those people who bites into it after three seconds.

Guilty.

But over the years, “lollipop” has become the more common name, especially with all the fun and colorful varieties out there today. And wow, have lollipops come a long way.

We still love the old-fashioned favorites, of course. Those classic suckers have been making candy lovers smile for generations. But today’s lollipops are practically a party on a stick.

There are bubble gum pops, caramel apple pops, ring pops, sour pops, swirl pops, sports pops, novelty pops, holiday pops, and lollipops in just about every shape, color, and flavor you can imagine. Some even play music!  Yes, music!  Some are tiny. Some are giant. Some turn your tongue colors. Some come with gum in the middle. And some look so fun, they almost feel like a toy and a treat rolled into one.

Almost.

Please do not try to play catch with a lollipop.

One of the sweetest things about lollipops is how versatile they are. They’re not just fun to eat, they’re easy to share, sell, pack, toss, tuck, and hand out.

That makes them a perfect pick for concession stands. When the sun is beating down at the ball field, chocolate can melt faster than a kid can ask for another snack. Lollipops, though? They’re ready for action. They’re individually wrapped, so they're easy to display and easy to sell.

They’re also a big win for parades and celebrations. Whether it’s a 4th of July parade, a church festival, a fire department picnic, or a simple family celebration, lollipops are one of those treats that are simple to hand out and always get a smile. Toss a few into parade bags, goodie bags, prize buckets, or giveaway bins, and suddenly you’ve got instant sweetness on a stick.

So whether you call them suckers, lollipops, or pops one thing is certain: this classic treat is not going anywhere.

Trends may change. Slang may get stranger. Kids may keep saying things that make adults question reality. But lollipops will always be a sweet, simple, colorful favorite for candy lovers of all ages.

And honestly, that’s pretty 6 7.
